‘Yonderland’ review: Sky1’s bonkers comedy begins its third season in fine form

Posted Filed under

Great news!  Yonderland continues to be basically the best thing on television.

Bad news for Debbie, though: Pete’s got a thrilling new job offer, but it’s in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, Negatus, finally free of his oppressive boss, the recently-thwarted Imperatrix, couldn’t be bothered to do evil overlording, because why bother when there’s pizza and video games?  And while I wholeheartedly agree (pizza and video games are basically my lifeblood) his demon minions are at their wits’ end with no minioning to do.

But even without the usual baddies doing bad things, Debbie still finds herself needed to solve a small emergency.  Indeed, the very smallness of the emergency leads Debbie to question whether Yonderland even needs a Chosen One anymore at all – which it obviously does, come on, they’re hopeless.

Yonderland 2

Stephen Fry’s in this one!  He plays Cuddly Dick, an elder with excellent hair and a name that leaves absolutely no opportunities for copious double entendres.  But is he all cuddles and dick jokes, or is there more to this mysterious fellow than meets the eye?  This remains to be seen, but I look forward to, well, seeing it.

The show continues into its third season in fine form, silly enough for the family, but with enough grown-up jokes that were I a parent, I’m sure my poor little ‘uns would be staring at me in mildly embarrassed concern as I roll about on the floor, tears streaming down my face as though possessed by the spirit of ribald giggles.

It’s probably a good thing I am not a parent.
