There have been some terrific TARDIS teams in Doctor Who, so here is a rundown of the Doctor’s best gangs, as voted by our readers…
3. The Ninth Doctor, Rose, Jack and Mickey in ‘BoomTown’
Hanging as a gang while refuelling his frankly magnificent time ship in Cardiff gave the Ninth Doctor and pals the chance for some down time. While Mickey was still on the edge of the group, and Jack was making his presence felt, there was time for a meal before they took down Margaret Siltheen – masquerading as the Mayor of the Welsh Capital.
Of course, she had an agenda and the tale ended with Mickey remaining behind as the others set off for further adventures.
2. The Eleventh Doctor, Amy, Rory and River Song
Together on and off throughout Matt Smith’s era – particularly in 2011’s Season 6, which dealt with the death of the Doctor and the birth of River Song – this line up eventually transpired to by a dysfunctional family with Amy and Rory as the parents, with their daughter Melody (River) and her husband the Doctor.
With so many pivotal moments to choose from in this team’s story, we plump for the moment of revelation from ‘a Good Man Goes to War’ when River reveals, first to the Doctor, then to her parents, who she really is.
1. The Tenth Doctor, Donna, Martha, Rose, Jack, Mickey, Jackie, Sarah Jane and the Meta-Crisis Doctor
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the team which tops our poll is the band of companions and friends the Doctor drew together across his Ninth and Tenth incarnations.
Dubbed “The Children of Time” by Dalek Caan, they were brought together to foil the Daleks and Davros, with his insane plan to destroy multiple universes using a reality bomb, this team really came into its own in the story’s final act.
Working together with allies on Earth, and manning all six sides of the TARDIS console in a memorable scene, they harnessed the power of the time rift in Cardiff to tow the Earth back to its proper position.
