CultBox was incredibly lucky last month to be invited all the way down to sunny Cardiff for a special tour behind the scenes at Roath Lock Studios, home of Casualty, Pobol y Cwm, and most importantly, Doctor Who.
In true Charles and Camilla style, we were taken to the beautiful new BBC studios (just up the road from the excellent Doctor Who Experience) and invited in to Studio 4, home of the TARDIS, wherein a Dalek and a huge wooden structure with rather familiar blue doors greeted us.
Stroll through the double doors and suddenly we’re inside the TARDIS. The actual TARDIS! It really does feel bigger on the inside, and the HD-friendly attention to detail from the design team is noticeable from the first moment we lay eyes on the impressively tall and intricate console.
The studio crew are on hand to answer all our questions, though sadly any questions regarding the 50th Anniversary Special are met with laughter and then silence. However, we do learn which buttons Matt Smith likes to press, how cameras are able to shoot the 360 degree set, and most importantly, that the 50th Anniversary Special is simply amazing!
The official studio tour is available to book now until Saturday 25 August. Prices start from £20.50 for adults and £14.50 for children. For £25.50/£14.40 a walking tour of filming locations around Cardiff Bay is also included. All tickets include general admission to the Doctor Who Experience and the TARDIS studio set tour.
