Jodie Whittaker told the Telegraph that the thirteenth Doctor’s costume, which she helped create with designer Ray Holman, contains clues:
“There is a reason for every single little thing. The colour of every single part of the outfit, every stripe, every bit of lining ‒ everything is a choice, and at some point you may know.”
From the periwinkle blue coat to the petrol culottes to the rainbow detail in her shirt and the trim of her coat ‒ every part is significant.
Whittaker also had this to say about playing the lead in a television show with twelve previous male leads:
“It’s 2018. Women are not a genre, we are just the other half of the population.”
Doctor Who returns to television on October 7 with The Woman Who Fell to Earth.
