The show’s stars took to the stage to discuss Cross

Thanks to last weekend’s New York Comic Con panel, and a tvinsider write-up, we’ve learned a little more about the new thriller series starring author James Patterson’s famous detective.

While Patterson created Alex Cross, we learned that he encouraged the team behind the show, led by showrunner Ben Watkins, to explore new angles. This has led to a storyline that wasn’t depicted in the books.

We also understand that the character of John Sampson, played in this version by Isaiah Mustafa, plays a more central role. More able to match Cross’s intellect, he’s also willing to confront his friend when he’s in the wrong.

At the NYCC panel, they also debuted a new clip from the series showing Cross in the interrogation room with a suspect.

The first season of Cross will see the detective, played by Aldis Hodge, investigate the horrifying work of a serial killer terrorizing his hometown of Washington, D.C. All while he also manages parenthood, grieves for his wife and re-enters the dating pool too.

Season 1 of Cross premieres globally on Thursday, November 14th via Prime Video.

Cross Season 1 – full trailer drops

Following May’s teaser, we now have a longer look at Cross season 1

Drawing on James Patterson‘s extensive bestselling book series, Cross stars Aldis Hodge (Leverage: Redemption) in the title role.

Alex Cross is the detective who catches killers by delving into their psyches, as well as those of their victims. He’s previously appeared on the big screen played by Morgan Freeman, and more recently, Tyler Perry.

Of course, as well as his remarkable abilities, Alex Cross is a troubled soul grieving for his wife and raising two children. As the intense trailer shows, this first case will get very personal.

Prime Video describe Cross as “… a complex, twisted, pulse-pounding thriller”. They clearly have faith in the show too, as the second season already in the works.

Joining Hodge, the first season also stars Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, Jennifer Wigmore, Eloise Mumford, and Ryan Eggold.

Cross comes from showrunner and executive producer Ben Watkins (Burn Notice), with Hodge and author James Patterson also in the producing team.

The show is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Paramount Television Studios, and Skydance Television. This is the group of companies responsible for the recent successful series adaptations of Reacher and Jack Ryan. With the latter now concluded, we imagine Cross is being eyed as an ideal replacement.

Cross Season 1 lands on Thursday, 14th November 2024 when the streamer drops all eight episodes.
