The show, adapted from the novels of James Patterson, will star Aldis Hodge as detective Alex Cross.
With its first series yet to air, Deadline has the news that Prime Video have already recommissioned Cross.
The thriller series, starring Aldis Hodge (Leverage: Redemption, Black Adam) in the title role, is adapted from the works of James Patterson.
It’s not the first time the New York detective has made it to our screens. Morgan Freeman played the role for two outings, 1997’s Kiss the Girls and its 2001 sequel Along Came a Spider, while Tyler Perry fronted 2012’s Alex Cross.
The new Cross comes to Prime Video through Amazon MGM Studios, Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television. This is the team behind the recent successful series adaptations of Reacher and Jack Ryan – two characters in a similar situation of having a lengthy literary back catalogue and seemingly stalled movie franchises. With 32 novels, and another due in December 2024, the production has ample material to work with.
Here’s the synopsis for Cross:
Alex Cross is brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions. A doting father and family man, Cross is single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers. He is desperate for love, but his wife’s murder has left him too damaged to receive it.
The series comes from producer and writer Ben Watkins (Burn Notice).
Joining Aldis Hodge, season 1 stars Ryan Eggold, Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Johnny Ray Gill, Eloise Mumford and Siobhan Murphy. Deadline notes that season 2 adds Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo, Scream), Wes Chatham (Ahsoka) and Jeanine Mason (Upload) to the cast.
We’ll keep you posted.
