Bad Wolf executive Jane Tranter confirmed that the TARDIS interior set built for Doctor Who production at Wolf Studios Wales has been taken down.

On her Instagram post featuring photos from July 2026, she is pictured on the set with some of the team who designed and built it ‒ including production designer Phil Sims and producer Joel Collins, she stated that the set had been taken down the day after the July photo was taken.

“…final goodbye to the Tardis from some of the team who designed + built it, on the eve of having to take it down…”

It is unknown what parts of the set were preserved for storage. It is likely that the centre console and the iconic jukebox pictured in Tranter’s photo were put in storage.

Bad Wolf was originally going to produce a Doctor Who Christmas special for 2026. On 10 June 2026, the BBC announced that plans for the special would not go ahead. The Reality War, the last episode of Doctor Who transmitted, ended on a cliffhanger at the TARDIS doors with this set visible in the background.

Along with the 2026 Christmas special cancellation, the BBC announced plans to offer Doctor Who production for competitive tender.

The Doctor Who Invitation to Tender was posted on 17 September 2026, with the intention to transmit a new series and an unspecified number of specials in 2028/2029.

The production company with the winning pitch to the Doctor Who competitive tender will undoubtedly need to design and build their own new TARDIS interior set. The design of the interior TARDIS console room has varied remarkably in the 60+ years of the programme.

Doctor Who tender competitors have until 2 October 2026 to submit an eligibility application to make the BBC’s longlist. The announcement of the successful pitch for the Doctor Who tender is set to occur some time in March 2027.
