Russell T Davies, one of the UK’s foremost writers of television drama such as Doctor Who, Queer As Folk, Years And Years, Casanova, Cucumber, and It’s a Sin, has written a memoir to be released this autumn.
Titled The Queerest of Folk: A Life in Television, the television writer and showrunner will take readers through his life in television and behind the scenes on some of his shows.

The book distils Russell T Davies’s career in television, taking readers from his early days working on children’s shows and soaps through to the giddy heights of relaunching Doctor Who and bringing queer relationships onto the mainstream screen. The book was written by Davies with the help of entertainment personality and journalist Boyd Hilton.

The memoir offers a glimpse into the imagination of Russell T Davies: “what it is to feel the spark and flood and burn of ideas popping into your head – coupled with the day-to-day business of meetings and pitches, the frustrations and the hoots, over a career that has spanned five decades.”

A previous book which covered Davies’ first stint as Doctor Who showrunner, Doctor Who: The Writer’s Tale was published in 2008. Among other shows he’s written, The Queerest of Folk covers his second stint as Doctor Who showrunner (2021-2025) and that part alone should be an interesting read.

The Queerest of Folk: A Life in Television by Russell T Davies is available to pre-order for an 8 October 2026 release.
