Star Cops – Blood Moon – Big Finish reveal new monthly audio series

Star Cops: Blood Moon lands between January and June 2024.

Now in its fourth run, the audio revival of Chris Boucher’s Star Cops embraces a new mini-series format.

The show, based on the short-lived BBC television series, is a smart police procedural. Set in the near future, it follows the activities of the Interplanetary Space Police Force. Based on the Moon, the so-called Star Cops police comings and goings to Moonbase, stations in orbit and everything else on the “high frontier”.

In a similar fashion to the recent Doctor Who: Once and Future series, Star Cops – Blood Moon drops in monthly instalments between January and December 2024.

Star Cops: Blood Moon

Here’s the (very brief) premise for Star Cops – Blood Moon:

It’s the near future, and mankind has expanded its presence in space. Maintaining law and order beyond Earth is the responsibility of the International Space Police Force, known colloquially as the Star Cops. Their leader is Commander Nathan Spring.

A Star Cop investigation into a murder on Earth leads to an amazing revelation. The team’s resilience is tested as the fallout affects their next cases.

While the information is scant so far, we’re told to expect murder, kidnappings, and exciting cliff-hangers.

Original television cast members David Calder, Trevor Cooper and Linda Newton reprise their roles as Nathan Spring, Colin Devis and Pal Kenzy. They’re joined by Philip Olivier’s Paul Bailey, plus the newly recruited Inspector Alice Okoro (Lyndsey Murrell).

Blood Moon has six instalments and rolls out monthly, like the recent Doctor Who: Once and Future mini-series.

The writing team for the Blood Moon storyline is a mix of familiar and new names

The six episodes are:

‘I Was Killed Yesterday’ by Andrew Smith

‘Daughters of Death’ by Nicola Baldwin

‘Troubled Waters’ by Una McCormack

‘A Cage of Sky’ by James Swallow

‘London Zone’ by Andrew Smith

‘Devis’ by Roland Moore

Script editor Andrew Smith said:

“Star Cops is always a treat to come back to. The concept, established by the late Chris Boucher in his 1987 TV series, provides a rich dramatic canvas for us.

There are so many stories that can be told about policing near-Earth space in the near future, stories that are told in a gritty, realistic way, and the writers never fail to deliver.”

Each episode of Star Cops – Blood Moon is available to pre-order on collector’s edition CD (+ download), or as a digital download only, from Big Finish. There’s also currently an early-bird discount available on complete series pre-order bundles.

NB: The collector’s edition CDs are strictly limited to a pressing of just 1,000 per episode.
