Fans of bloody gladiatorial combat rejoice! Via THR, we’ve learned that Those About To Die is coming to Prime Video.
Commissioned by US streamer Peacock, the show draws on the same non-fiction text as the movie Gladiator.
Across 10 episodes, Those About To Die pays out in the complex and corrupt world of chariot racing and gladiatorial fights. The series has filmed at Rome’s famous Cinecittà Studios.
The source material, by Daniel P. Mannix, has been adapted for the screen by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan). Roland Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner are directing individual episodes, with all three serving as executive producers on the show.
We already knew about the casting of Sir Anthony Hopkins as the Emperor Vespasian. Joining him are Iwan Rheon (WOLF), Johannes Haukur Johannesson (Vikings), Liraz Charhi (Tehran) and Rupert Penry-Jones (Spooks). Some details of their roles are available here.
Also in the cast are Eneko Sagardoy, Tom Hughes (The English), Sara Martins (Death in Paradise), Gabriella Pession, Alicia Edogamhe, Jojo Macari, Dimitri Leonidas, Moe Hashim, Gonçalo Almeida, Kyshan Wilson and Pepe Barroso.
