From writer director Hugo Blick, The English also stars Chaske Spencer.
Updated 14/10/22: Ahead of the show’s world premiere, Prime Video have dropped a further trailer.
The English will be with us in under a month. The highly anticipated western starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer begins on November 10th on BBC Two, with an international release on Prime Video the day after.
However, the show is also getting a premiere this weekend too as part of the BFI London Film Festival.
Episodes 1 and 2 of the drama will play to a sold out audience at the BFI Southbank, with creator/director/screenwriter Hugo Blick and cast members including Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer, Tom Hughes and Stephen Rea all expected to attend.
Ahead of the premiere, Prime Video have launched a second trailer.
“It’s just something about this country. I sometimes wonder if there’s horror in us all?”
Set to a rock and roll soundtrack, the show promises violence and gore as Emily Blunt’s Lady Cornelia Locke seeks her revenge. However it’s not all darkness, with some blackly comic moments too.
We’ll keep you posted on The English.

The English – the Emily Blunt fronted Western gains trailers & start dates
We got first-look images of The English last month, now the BBC are back with a trailer and a start date of Thursday, November 10th.
Set in the 1890s, writer/director Hugo Blick’s “mythical Western drama” stars Emily Blunt as an aristocratic Englishwoman. Seeking to track down the man responsible for her son’s death, she’s paired with Pawnee ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer).
The show promises “… to take on themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, love and power.” For more on the show’s story, check out the BBC’s synopsis.
In addition to showcasing the epic scenery and emotional trauma, there’s plenty of action; Emily Blunt’s Lady Cornelia Locke fires a bow and arrow, and seemingly dispenses justice with gun. The trailer also teases her relationship with the initially remote Eli Whipp, who’s also seen in action.
As well as Blunt and Spencer, the teaser gives us a look at some of the wider cast. Stephen Rea plays local sheriff Robert Marshall, while the ensemble includes Valerie Pachner, Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Toby Jones and Ciarán Hinds.
Same show, different angle
Interestingly, Prime Video – who have the show outside the UK from November 11th – have also dropped a trailer.
Prime Video’s slightly shorter take heavily emphasises the show’s more graphic aspects, leaning into the violence and horror. It really is quite a different take, with barely a hint of the characters’ emotional journeys. We imagine the BBC will provide a further trailer before the show launches.
Prime Video have also created a terrific poster, with the two central characters in silhouette above cracking ground.
The English comes to BBC Two on November 10th, with the whole series also landing on iPlayer on that date. On Friday, November 11th, it’s available on Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Nordics.
