All seven seasons will be streaming for free in the UK…
For the first time on UK telly, Joss Whedon’s groundbreaking teen horror series Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be free to stream. Channel 4 has announced that all seven seasons of the critically acclaimed show will be available from June 1st on All 4.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer originally aired between 1997 and 2003, and introduced the world to the fang-fighting Scooby Gang of Buffy, Giles, Willow and Xander aka Sarah Michelle Gellar, Anthony Head, Alyson Hannigan and Nicholas Brendon. The series deftly addressed some difficult subjects and paved the way for the likes of Supernatural and MTV’s Teen Wolf reboot.
“We’re ecstatic that we get to re-live the phenomenal success Buffy The Vampire Slayer has had over the past 23 years”, said Channel 4’s Head of Acquisitions Nick Lee in a statement about the acquisition. “This for many is a long awaited chance to relive this iconic series. For others, it will be a chance to experience it for the very first time, and find out what all the fuss is about!”
There had previously been some question of whether Buffy the Vampire Slayer would make the move to Disney+ after the streaming service sent a questionnaire to its subscribers asking if they’d be interested in watching the show via the platform. Buffy has been streaming on Amazon Prime Video UK for quite some time, as plenty of fans have noted, but this will make the series free on All 4 for a while.
