9-year-old Anna Mark from Basingstoke received the surprise of her life when Jodie Whittaker as the thirteenth Doctor appeared appeared on her family’s television television screen to invite her to tour the TARDIS in a clip shown during the BBC’s 2018 Children in Need special.
Anna was born with a cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening genetic condition which affects her lungs and other organs. Anna and her brother Alex were given this special trip thanks to the kind consideration of the BBC, the Doctor Who cast and crew and with the support of Sebastian’s Action Trust – a charity that receives vital funding from Children in Need and specialises in working with children with serious illnesses.
The Mark family sits down to watch Doctor Who every Sunday and Jodie Whittaker is Anna’s favorite Doctor.
Anna and her brother Alex traveled to Cardiff to visit the set where they make Doctor Who to visit the TARDIS set, see the props and costumes and meet Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, and Bradley Walsh.
Anna was given a bespoke thirteenth Doctor costume to wear in her size.
The best was saved for last. Jodie Whittaker appeared on the TARDIS set to have a heart-to-heart with Anna!
