The pair will star in the anthology show’s upcoming forth season – Night Country.
News has broken (via Deadline) of some further high-profile casting for the latest season of True Detective. Joining new leads Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the show are two familiar British names – Christopher Eccleston and Fiona Shaw.
The latest iteration of HBO’s True Detective comes from writer/director Issa López. The story plays out in Alaska and surrounds disappearances at an Arctic Research Station.
Here’s the synopsis for the new run – True Detective: Night Country
“When the long winter falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
Christopher Eccleston plays the regional Chief of Police Ted Corsaro. Described as a political animal, he has a long history with Jodie Foster’s Liz Danvers.
Meanwhile, Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Andor) is Rose Angineau, a survivalist with a past full of secrets.
The anthology show has often gathered a starry cast. Previous series have been led by the pairings of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, and Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff. Guests have included Michelle Monaghan, Rachel McAdams and Carmen Ejogo.
Christopher Eccleston
This won’t be Christopher Eccleston’s first foray into the Arctic circle. In 2015, he played Professor Charlie Stoddart in the first series of Sky Atlantic’s psychological horror series Fortitude.
In the meantime, we can look forward to the actor reprising his role of Fagin; a run of three Dodger specials have been announced.
Additionally, he’s starring with Daisy Ridley in The Young Woman and the Sea; from director Joachim Rønning it’s the story of the first woman to swim the English Channel.
Eccleston has also reprised his role as the Ninth Doctor for a terrific series of Doctor Who audios from Big Finish – you can check out our reviews here.
