Amazon Studios’ spy thriller is making a big international splash for Prime Video.

Prime Video’s Citadel, about the amnesiac former agents of an independent global spy agency, has become a massive hit for the streamer.

The series, headlined by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, with Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville, is Prime Video’s second most-watched new original series in the U.S. and its fourth most-watched worldwide.

On the back of this success, they’ve now confirmed the rumours by officially granting the show a second season. This news hit just hours before the season one finale dropped.

For Citadel Season 2 there’s also a shift behind the scenes. While the first six episodes were helmed by Newton Thomas Sigel, some with Jessica Yu, Joe Russo is directing every episode of season 2. The Russo Brothers came in as executive producers during the show’s lengthy original production cycle.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios, said:

“Our goal was always to create a new franchise rooted in original IP that would grow Prime Video’s international audience. This show has drawn an outsize number of new international customers to Prime Video. Its massive worldwide debut audience is a testament to Joe and Anthony Russo’s remarkable vision, the incredible talents of Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lesley Manville and Stanley Tucci, and the tireless work of the creative teams, cast, and crew. Given the overwhelming number of our customers who have embraced this show, we are not only thrilled to share the premiere episode of Citadel globally without membership, but also confirm that the series will return for a second season.”
