The actor adds Macbeth to his roster of the great Shakespearean roles.
Radio 4 have announced that David Tennant will play Macbeth in their upcoming production of the Shakespearean tragedy.
The actor, of course, is no stranger to the Bard, having played both Hamlet and Richard II for the Royal Shakespeare Company – as well as performing in radio versions of Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night.
Alison Hindell, Radio 4’s Commissioning Editor for Drama and Fiction, said:
“Macbeth is a part of great significance for any actor, but particularly so for Scottish players. As David Tennant makes a welcome return to Radio 4 audio drama we look forward to this performance with great anticipation.”
Famous Scots
Tennant follows fellow famous Scots in the role including James McAvoy, Alan Cumming and Nicol Williamson. Not is he the only former Doctor to play the role, as Christopher Eccleston has given his Macbeth too.
This production of Macbeth also stars Daniela Nardini (This Life) as Lady Macbeth, Stuart McQuarrie as Banquo, Alec Newman (Shetland) as Macduff and Naana Agyei-Ampadu as Lady Macduff. Clive Brill directs, as a Brill production for Radio 4.
The play transmits in two parts, the first of which is on the 23rd of April. Part one airs at 3pm, with Part two on Sunday 24th at the same time.
Macbeth will also be available on BBC Sounds.
