The official Disney Website listed former Doctor Who actor  Matt Smith as one of the new cast members of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

“Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.”

This is great news after Smith himself denied any involvement in the Star Wars franchise in an interview with the LA Times.

A trailer for the move was released on April 12 but does not feature Matt Smith.

We look forward to seeing what type of role Matt Smith will play in the movie which is due to be released on December 19, 2019.

Update, May 3, 2019: Disney updated their website and deleted Matt Smith and Dominic Monaghan’s name from their list of new cast members. Because of this perfunctory revision, we think the main mystery here is not whether Smith will appear in the movie but why his appearance is classified.
