In a video interview conducted by The Sun at the London premiere of the Doctor Who 2024 series, showrunner Russell T Davies and stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson shared some of their insights about the upcoming series.
“What we’ve got coming up is the full range of adventures,” Davies revealed. “We’ve got comedy stories. We’ve got music. We’ve got horror. We’ve got Welsh folk horror. It’s a very unusual territory for the show to go into. We’ve got chases. We’ve got the end of the world… And sometimes we’ve got something as simple as the end of a friendship and a broken heart at the centre of the stage. So it’s got the full emotional range. It’s got all the epic stuff, if you love that, but it’s got heart and humanity right at the centre of it.”
The first two episodes of the series, Space Babies and The Devil’s Chord, were screened at the premiere but Ncuti Gatwa (The Doctor) and Millie Gibson (Ruby Sunday) chose to talk about some of the other episodes.
“I feel like it’s where, like, stakes are now added to the series. Like depth is now there. It’s not just fun and games any more,” Gatwa said of the third episode, Boom.
“Episode Four. Oh my duffle coat! I have a really nice duffle coat and I’ve got the bobby hat as well. Look out for a banging duffle coat and a bobby hat, okay, in Episode Four,” Gatwa said of 73 Yards.
“It’s phenomenal! The amount of layers in that episode — so much happens… I love it so much. You go through so many emotions in that episode,” Millie Gibson spoke of the sixth episode Rogue.
“The end is heartbreaking!, Gatwa added”
