According to the cast list in the 30 October-5 November issue of Radio Times, Vinder, the new Doctor Who character played by Jacob Anderson, is introduced in the first of six chapters of Flux, The Halloween Apocalypse.
Vinder is a fighter pilot with his own ship and a “man of honour” in Flux.
“He has that humanity, that warmth, but he can also play an action hero,” showrunner Chris Chibnall said of Jacob Anderson at the July Comic Con Panel. “He makes you root for him and he breaks your heart.”
“I think most actors have that one one thing where they’re like, ‘If I could do anything, then it’s that, Anderson told Radio Times. “Doctor Who was always my thing. It’s massive.”
“I did actually audition for Doctor Who a long time ago,” Anderson revealed to Doctor Who Magazine. “I auditioned for Rory [Williams]. I was definitely too young, and Arthur Darvill is amazing. I’ve worked with [Arthur] since, and he’s a lovely man. So I’m glad that he did it.”
Anderson hopes Vinder will make a lasting and popular impression on Doctor Who fans.
“I really hope people like Vinder, as a fan of the show and as a fan of those characters that come in and recur and are part of the story beyond their singular story, there are some really iconic characters. Like River Song, and Osgood and all these people you really remember and I hope Vinder can be a part of that…”
