BBC America, in conjunction with AMC Channels, has released a promotional summary of Doctor Who Series 13 via Deadline.
“She’s back. The Thirteenth Doctor is returning for the thirteenth series in what is set to be a six-part Event Serial. Since their last epic battle in Revolution of the Daleks, the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and Yaz (Mandip Gill) have been exploring the universe together but with the Doctor now questioning everything about her past there she will undoubtedly be searching for answers. This adrenalin fueled; universe-spanning series will also see an addition to the TARDIS with actor and comedian John Bishop joining the cast as Dan Lewis who will quickly learn there’s more to the Universe than he could ever believe. Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones, Broadchurch) is also set to make his debut on Doctor Who as reoccurring character, Vinder. Jacob’s new role will see him join forces with the Doctor, Yaz and Dan as the Doctor faces her biggest ever adventure. Series 13 is set to introduce some terrifying new adversaries and the return of truly iconic old enemies. Expect action, fun, scares, extraordinary new worlds as the Doctor and her friends confront a deadly evil…”
The Series contains a single story arc over six episodes. The BBC America summary suggests that, as part of that arc, the Doctor will be “questioning everything about her past” and “will undoubtedly be searching for answers” to questions about her true origins and her past on Gallifrey and with the Division.
The summary also reveals that Jacob Anderson’s character Vinder, a character appearing throughout the series, will be an ally to the Doctor and her companions.
During the Comic Con @ Home panel, showrunner Chris Chibnall said something interesting about Vinder.
“He makes you root for him and he breaks your heart.”
How will Vinder break our hearts? Will something tragic happen to him or is he a betrayer?
Another intriguing thing mentioned by the summary is an unnamed “deadly evil.” Could this be the “swarm” Chris Chibnall teased at the Comic Con panel or could it be the Division, the sinister secret Gallifreyan agency?
Doctor Who Series 13 will consist of six episodes of a single story. The series is scheduled to air in autumn of 2021.
There will be three additional specials in 2022, airing on New Year’s Day, spring, and a BBC Centenary special in Autumn which will be the last for Jodie Whittaker’s thirteenth Doctor.
