Off the back of the success of Slow Horses, Apple TV+ have commissioned another adaptation of a Mick Herron book. This time, it’s Down Cemetery Road, his debut novel from 2003.
The thriller, which features struggling private eye Zoë Boehm, is the first of his four-book “The Oxford Series”.
The show will star Emma Thompson is Zoë Boehm, with Ruth Wilson (His Dark Materials) as Sarah Tucker, who becomes obsessed with the whereabouts of a child she believes to have gone missing.
Here’s the synopsis for Down Cemetery Road:
When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbour Sarah Tucker becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm. Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals that people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.
Morwenna Banks (Funny Woman, Slow Horses) will serve as lead writer. The writing team includes Rose Heiney, Emily Marcuson, and Kevin Cecil & Andy Riley.
Apple TV+’s Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, said:
“‘Down Cemetery Road’ has all the hallmarks of Mick Herron’s funny and acerbic writing, and I’m delighted we will be bringing it to life for Apple TV+ with such a stellar cast. “Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson will make it an unmissable companion piece for ‘Slow Horses’ on our service.”
The series comes from executive producers Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films (Hijack). Morwenna Banks, Emma Thompson and the author Mick Herron also serve as executive producers. Natalie Bailey will be the lead director for the series.
