Period drama Firebrand is due to shoot in the UK in 2022 and will star Michelle Williams as Katherine Parr (pictured — the final wife of Henry VIII is on the right!)
Thanks to KFTV we can bring details on something to look for in 2022 — Firebrand (originally to be called Queen’s Gambit until Netflix released it’s blockbusting limited series starring Anya Taylor-Joy).
This new project is the first English language project for director Karim Aïnouz. The film is written by Jessica and Henrietta Ashworth (Killing Eve, Tell it to the Bees). Aïnouz describes the film as:
“A reimagining of a ‘period’ film, a psychological horror set in the Tudor Court; a story of intrigue, agency and survival.”
He goes on to describe Parr as:
“…a ferociously brilliant woman who I am inspired by deeply and has been largely invisible, or certainly under-represented in English history.”
Katherine Parr was recently played on screen by Joely Richardson in The Tudors (2010). Before that she was played by Deborah Kerr in Young Bess (1953).
There are no further details on casting for Firebrand, or distribution, but on what we know so far, this is something we shall be looking out for. More news as we get it.
