It’s now definite: a television show based on the hit movie Four Weddings & A Funeral is on the way.

Mindy Kaling is joining forces with the writer of the film, Richard Curtis, for the new show. Kaling will be writing the programme along with Matt Warburton, although it’s unclear as of yet if she’ll appear in the show too.

UPDATE: It’s not unclear anymore! Kaling won’t be appearing in front of the camera for this one, she confirmed to Digital Spy.

The show will take the basic premise of five friends whose lives cross over, and Hulu has officially ordered the show. Hulu previously collaborated with Kaling on The Mindy Show.

No details yet on when filming begins, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

It’s been 23 years since Hugh Grant’s star-making performance landed in the smash hit movie Four Weddings And A Funeral. The movie itself earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and Grant’s performance provided a template for his roles for a good decade or so afterwards.

Now though comes the news that Hulu has picked up the rights to Four Weddings And A Funeral, and is looking in the first instance to do an anthology television series using the movie as inspiration. The plan is that the narrative will follow the five core characters on their marriage adventures.

Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton and writing and executive-producing the series. Richard Curtis, who wrote the original film, is also involved.

A decision on whether to order the series is set to be made early next year. We’ll keep you posted…
