In a video panel for DC FanDome, writer and director James Gunn announced the cast of his The Suicide Squad movie, which finished filming in February and is set to be released in 2021.
Among them was Peter Capaldi who was announced as playing the villainous genius comic book character The Thinker.
Created by comic writers Gardner Fox and Everett E. Hibbard, The Thinker first appearing in Adventures of All-Flash #12. The Thinker has a prodigious predictive brain which drains energy from the rest of his body. The Thinker later joined the Suicide Squad, a team of imprisoned super-villains who perform high-risk missions for the U.S. Government in exchange for commuted sentences.
After participating in a trivia game with his fellow cast members, Capaldi had this to say about his filming experience:
“I’ve just got to say what an amazing experience it was to work with you and all of these guys. You know, the atmosphere on that set was so positive, such a warm, wonderful supportive place to be. Now, not everybody has been any big superhero, even if they’ve been Doctor Who and all that, so coming to a set like that can be quite intimidating. But the welcome that you and everybody here provided is just fantastic so thank you to everybody here for that.”
The cast was announced in a video, now available, which was played as part of the panel.
Starring Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, John Cena, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Michael Rooker, Flula Borg, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Mayling Ng, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Storm Reid, Taika Waititi, Joaquín Cosío, and Juan Diego Botto; James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be released in theatres some time in 2021.
