The first official photo from the opening episode of Doctor Who‘s new series has been unveiled by US magazine Entertainment Weekly.

The photo shows Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in Victorian costumes looking rather concerned.

Series 8 begins on BBC One on Saturday 23 August with a feature-length episode, entitled ‘Deep Breath’.

Written by Steven Moffat and directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers), the episode features returning guest stars Neve McIntosh as Madame Vastra, Catrin Stewart as Jenny and Dan Starkey as Strax.

Moffat told the magazine that ‘Deep Breath” is “a big introduction” for the Twelfth Doctor.
