Actor Kit Harington reveals they couldn’t find the right story to tell about Jon Snow’s life beyond the wall.
Yesterday we shared exciting progress on one Game of Thrones spin off, now there’s unpromising news of another.
The mooted Jon Snow spin off, for which Kit Harington was going to return, is apparently no longer in development.
Speaking to ScreenRant, while out on the promotional trail for his new action thriller move Blood for Dust, Harington revealed that the project has stalled saying:
“I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed. I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.
“And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
We’ve a hunch that the potential show has missed its moment, but time will tell.
Game of Thrones spin offs
The next instalment of Westeros-based action arrives on June 17th, 2024. House of the Dragon Season 2 has twin trailers and asks viewers to pick a side: Green and Black.
Meanwhile, “Dunk and Egg” aka A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is in pre-production. That’s expected to land in late 2025.
