Allan Heinberg, who worked on the script for Wonder Woman, has jumped ship from DC to Marvel. ABC has committed to producing a Marvel series from Heinberg, which will focus on female superheroes.
As well as working on Wonder Woman, Heinberg has also built a strong CV featuring top-notch TV (Grey’s Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, Sex And The City, Scandal) and well-known comics (he created the Young Avengers team). He is also attached to one of Fox’s Marvel projects, the in-development Multiple Man movie that could star James Franco.
All we know about Heinberg’s ABC series is that it will focus on female superheroes and that the network has committed to making it. We don’t know if it’s based on one of the Marvel characters that Heinberg created (such as the Kate Bishop version of Hawkeye), or a different set of characters altogether.
ABC’s wing of the Marvel universe has so far given us Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter and Inhumans, while Runaways has gone to its sister network Freeform.
Yesterday, we learned that the Marvel Cinematic Universe producer Kevin Feige is taking a hands-on role in developing big budget series based on Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch for Disney’s upcoming new streaming service. Be that as it may, ABC clearly wants to stay in the Marvel game as well.
We’ll bring you more news on Heinberg’s series as we hear it.
