Bancroft: ITV orders second series of hit crime thriller

Considering the crime thriller drama Bancroft wasn’t originally intended to go out on ITV One, it certainly did okay for itself just before Christmas. Slotted into the schedules when the network’s Hatton Garden robbery drama was delayed, Bancroft found itself duly promoted to the main ITV channel, and earned decent ratings.

Decent enough, too, to earn a second series.

A spoiler for series one follows!

The new run has just been confirmed by ITV, and will last for four episodes. Kate Brooke, the show’s creator, returns to write the new episodes, and Sarah Parish will reprise the lead role.

We’ve got a few details as to what to expect, too, as ITV has explained that “the new series focuses on Bancroft’s continuing success following her promotion to Detective Chief Superintendent. She’s popular with her colleagues, and her crime figures are down. However, her success comes at a price, as she’s lonely and estranged from her beloved son Joe and under pressure as a result of her dangerous pact with crime boss Daanish Kamara”.

The announcement adds that “when Joe is inadvertently dragged into the middle of a double murder case, Bancroft determines to do anything to protect her son and finds herself up against a chilling new antagonist”.

Filming will begin in the north west of England later this year. Presumably, ITV will look to get the new series on screens this side of Christmas.
