In its Annual Plan for 2023/2024 the BBC included Doctor Who in its list of “distinctive, high-quality drama working with the very best new and established on-and-off-screen talent” which it will “continue to prioritise”.
“We will bolster our on-screen spend with third-party investment to deliver greater value to audiences, including the first new content from our highly ambitious reinvention of Doctor Who, co-produced in partnership with Disney.”
The BBC predicts its “landmark” distribution deal partnership with Disney will take the Doctor Who franchise “to new heights globally” and are looking forward to Bad Wolf Studios bringing “their creativity to BBC classic Doctor Who.”
The three 2023 Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials were mentioned in the report as part of an “extraordinary year of high-impact content to come.”
Doctor Who will return in November 2023 with three 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble. In the following festive period, Ncuti Gatwa will star in his first full Doctor Who episode as the Fifteenth Doctor. Doctor Who Series 14 starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson will debut in 2024.
