David Tennant is heading back to the world of high-profile British crime drama, which will be music to the ears of anyone that loved his turn in Broadchurch. The former Doctor Who and recent Good Omens star will take a major role in Channel 4’s Deadwater Fell…
The official Channel 4 press pack tells us that Deadwater Fell “follows two families in the aftermath of a horrific crime.” A longer description of the plot reads thusly: “When a seemingly perfect and happy family is murdered by someone they know and trust, the small Scottish community they call home becomes riven with mistrust and suspicion as those closest to the family begin to question everything they thought they knew about their friends…”
Tennant will play a character named Tom Kendrick, who’s described like so: “The local GP, a trusted, admired and much-liked member of the community. A doting father to three little girls, a loving husband, his marriage to Kate, played by Anna Madeley (Patrick Melrose, The Crown, Utopia) appears nothing short of perfect.”
Kate teaches at a local school alongside her best friend Jess, who’ll be played by Cush Jumbo, who you’d recognise from The Good Fight, The Good Wife and/or Vera. Jess’ partner is called Steve, and he’ll be played by Matthew McNulty. It all seems like happy families on paper.
“But in one night the illusions of happiness and contentment are shattered,” the press pack teases, “as the community is drawn to Kate and Tom’s family home in the forest by the flicker of flames and the smell of smoke. Amid the confusion of the house fire, Kate and her three children are found dead, and Tom, who is found alive, is rushed to hospital.”
The show is filming on location in Scotland, later this year, and we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
