There has been talking of a Deadwood movie for years, and now HBO’s head honcho – Casey Bloys – has confirmed that it’s pressing ahead. The green light has been given, so hopefully, we should see the show’s impressive cast coming back together soon.
Speaking at a swanky press event, Bloys said this, confirming that the Deadwood movie is making progress behind the scenes:
“All of these people worked hard to get this together. It’s been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together, but we are there. It is greenlit.”
It has been three years since the news first broke that HBO was talking with Deadwood creator David Milch about making a movie together, so this announcement from Bloys marks a big step forward.
Rumours had recently swirled with regards to a production start date and a Deadwood movie release date, with Ian McShane himself suggesting that October 2018 was when filming would kick off and spring next year is when we’d get to see the film.
At the same swanky press event, Bloys made sure to mention that McShane’s suggested dates are not exactly “set in stone”. But still, it’s exciting to know that the project is pressing ahead.
We’ll let you know when we hear more about HBO’s Deadwood movie. We are particularly keen to hear which cast members will be returning.
