Fans hoping for a glimpse of Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday in their new costumes for Doctor Who filming will apparently need to wait a few days or weeks.

It is unknown whether Dylan Holmes Williams is currently directing the fifteenth Doctor’s introductory special which is expected to air during the festive period of 2023. There is not yet any official announcement whether Doctor Who Christmas specials will return under showrunner Russell T Davies.

Davies revealed in issue 584 of Doctor Who Magazine that at time of writing his column for the magazine, “I sit here with ten scripts in front of me (four Specials and six episodes of the New Series, so far, with Episode Seven blinking away on the screen, first line: INT. COFFEE BAR, USA – DAY, 1947, and to continue an old tradition, I can tell you that Special One contains these three words: westerly, pelican, dreams).”

There might be further information about current production contained in the pages of Doctor Who Magazine 585, which comes out on Thursday, 8 December. Script editor Scott Handcock is tasked with sharing a Production Diary of the series’ progress in each issue.

Doctor Who will return in November 2023 with three 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the fourteenth Doctor with Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble.

Ncuti Gatwa will take control of the TARDIS as the fifteenth Doctor with his first episode airing over the festive period in 2023.

All new episodes of Doctor Who will air on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ for international viewers.
