Doctor Who filming in Newport with UNIT, Space Saviour and companion

A Doctor Who crew filmed Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, Jemma Redgrave as UNIT Chief Scientific Officer Kate Stewart and Aneurin Barnard as Roger ap Gwilliam at Newport Market in Wales on 9 and 10 January.

UNIT, the long-running organisation tasked with defending planet Earth, returns for Doctor Who Series 14.

Jemma Redgrave’s return was officially announced along with Aneurin Barnard, who joins the series as the mysterious candidate Roger ap Gwilliam. According to campaign posters from previous filming at Capitol Shopping Centre in Cardiff on 3 January, Gwilliam is a General Election candidate and the Space Saviour.

Filming took place inside the Market on the morning of 9 January and moved outdoors onto High Street in the afternoon.

High Street was set dressed as a London street.

Jemma Redgrave was sighted by onlookers.

As was Millie Gibson.

Some extras showed up to film inside the market. Some were in blacks suits. Some were dressed as UNIT soldiers.

Aneurin Barnard showed up at the market in costume as Roger ap Gwilliam.

Barnard was not observed filming. An onlooker reported he was there to be interviewed for some sort of documentary on the filming. He may have been filming just down the street at Victoria Place.

The filming wrapped for the day.

Filming resumed at Newport Market the morning of 10 January.

UNIT was present.

Jemma Redgrave filmed the scene where Kate Stewart must end her conversation with Ruby Sunday and hurriedly join some UNIT action.

Some onlookers were able to snap photos of the production team and cast, including director Dylan Holmes Williams, who wore a blue knit cap during the filming. Monitors revealed frames from the scenes filmed.
