Doctor Who Series 13: Doctor, companions and TARDIS filming in Sully

A Doctor Who film crew was spotted on Sully Beach in Wales the morning of June 25.

Along with the TARDIS, Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill and John Bishop were photographed by a reporter for Barry Nub News.

According to the online publication in which you can find more photos, “The TARDIS looks to have landed in a shipwreck, with fishing nets and lobster pots surrounding the spaceship.”

Jodie Whittaker appears in the photos wearing a purple Chinese-style changshan tunic with her usual teal culottes while John Bishop looks rather like a pirate wearing a poet shirt under a colourful waistcoat. Mandip Gill was photographed in a plum frock.

There was a casting call for men of Chinese descent for filming on June 25 in Sully. Additionally there was a casting call for Chinese men to play pirates for a BBC program filming in Cardiff on 1, 5 and 6 of July.

This, combined with Jodie Whittaker’s Chinese-themed shirt leads to speculation about a Doctor Who episode featuring Chinese pirates. One 19th century band of Chinese pirates was famously led by “Pirate Queen” Zheng Yi Sao.

With all these reports, one can’t help speculating that there could be references the Season 1 Doctor Who episode Marco Polo as well.

Eight episodes are planned for Doctor Who Series 13 with the filming continuing into July. The clip which introduced John Bishop as companion Dan revealed the series is scheduled to air sometime in 2021, likely late autumn.
