Jenna Coleman has revealed that the sexuality of her Doctor Who character Clara is “open to interpretation”.

Speaking at Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo in Canada at the weekend, Coleman was asked if Clara is bisexual.

The audience member cited Clara’s line in ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ that Jane Austen is “a phenomenal kisser'” and Oswin’s line in ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ about fancying a girl called Nina (“I was going through a phase”).

Coleman responded: “Clara and Oswin are only echoes of each other. They are not the same… well, I suppose they are the same person. This is when I need Steven [Moffat]!”

She added: “She has a relationship with Jane Austen – I love those lines, I think they’re are hilarious – and it is open to interpretation!”
