‘Doctor Who’ writer Steven Moffat reveals his favourite episodes of Season 9

Steven Moffat has revealed which story from the most recent season of Doctor Who was his favourite.

Moffat’s fifth season as showrunner, and Peter Capaldi’s second season as the Doctor, aired in the autumn of 2015.

The writer recently discussed the filming of Season 9’s two-part Zygon story, ‘The Zygon Invasion’ and ‘The Zygon Inversion’ with Doctor Who Magazine.

He recalled: “I had this insane conversation with [director Daniel Nettheim] where he was saying ‘This bit doesn’t work. What am I going to do? I’m shooting on Monday.’ And this is about Wednesday. I said – and I didn’t mean it ironically – ‘I told you, I’m going to get up early tomorrow and fix it.’ And that made total sense to me, but Dan looked at me, like, what?! But that’s the job.”

Moffat continued: “‘These are the episodes that will break us,’ I remember saying to [executive producer Brian Minchin]. But I do love those Zygon episodes. I absolutely love them. They’re probably my favourites of [2015].”

He added: “[Writer] Peter Harness is a joy to work with – big brain, big ideas, constantly inventive. And Daniel Nettheim shot the hell out of it, he really did.”

12 new Doctor Who episodes have been filming in Cardiff since June 2016 and will begin airing on BBC One this April.
