Thought you’d never see it? Well, you may be wrong…
It’s been a long time coming, so savour this first look at Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Adam Driver is in the one-time Johnny Depp starring role (the title role of the man who killed? That would be telling) and Jonathan Pryce plays Quixote.
Or does he? That would also be telling, and after 25 years trying to get this film made, we think Gilliam should be the one doing the telling here.
Gilliam and Paolo Branco, a man who most assuredly did not produce this film, went to court yesterday over… well, it’s complicated. Suffice to say Branco is trying to stop the release of the movie. We’ll have to wait until June to see a French judge hand Branco his hat and throw him out onto the pavement.
As such, it’s unlikely the film will premiere at Cannes, as many had predicted. Asked about the chances of his film premiering on the Riviera right after leaving the court yesterday, Gilliam simply said “Well, Venice is a very beautiful city…”
So expect to see The Man Who Killed Don Quixote at the Venice Film Festival this Autumn, and hopefully in cinemas worldwide shortly afterwards.
