Luther star Idris Elba has revealed that there is a “slightly different twist” to his character in Star Trek Beyond.
Featuring the Thor: The Dark World actor as its main villain, the thirteen Star Trek movie – and the third in the rebooted franchise – is currently filming, directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 3-6).
Elba told MTV: “Simon [Pegg] and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character. You’ve never seen me play a character like this.”
He added: “I think Star Trek has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains. He’s a guy who wants to end the world, there’s no doubt about that. But in this version of the film, there’s a slightly different twist to that.”
Discussing the film’s story, Elba hinted at “quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the ’classic bad guy is a classic bad guy’ tone.”
Star Trek Beyond is due in cinemas on 22 July 2016.
Elba returns to BBC One with a new two-part Luther special this winter.
