‘In the Flesh’ star wants ‘Doctor Who’ lead role

Luke Newberry has revealed that he’s keen to take over the role of the Doctor when Peter Capaldi leaves Doctor Who.

The star of BBC Three zombie drama In the Flesh will next be seen in new crime drama From Darkness on BBC One.

Looking ahead, Newberry told Radio Times: “I’d love to play the Doctor!”

He joked: “People always used to think that I looked like David Tennant so when I went out they would always shout ‘It’s the Doctor!’ at me. Which is very bizarre – but flattering!”

However, In the Flesh fans shouldn’t expect the actor to play dead again soon: “It’s about pushing my limits and working out how far I can go… I think I’d be a fool to play another zombie just now…”

Doctor Who‘s new season began filming in Cardiff in January and will air on BBC One this autumn.
