Rwandan-born Gatwa was raised in Edinburgh and went on to attend the RCS in Glasgow, graduating with a BA in acting in 2013.
Speaking at the ceremony in Glasgow, he told the assembled graduates: “I am humbly inspired and in awe of the strength, talent, perseverance, and dedication to your craft that each of you clearly possess.”
“These qualities will serve you so well in life. What today signifies is that you are artists. Period.”
The 28-year-old actor smiled in his cap and gown while posing beside a street sign that read: “Twinned with Gallifrey,” as a nod to his upcoming role.
