Peter Capaldi has revealed that the storylines in the new series of Doctor Who has “a bit more gravity”.
The Scottish actor told The Sunday Times: “…it’s going to be a bit different from what we’ve seen over recent years. A bit more gravity. Some situations are a bit more sombre and I think there are more rooted dramatic scenes…. we have another level of drama, another tone. And the scenes are longer.”
However, he reassured fans: “We still blow a lot of shit up. That’s very important…”

Writer Steven Moffat hinted earlier this week: “One of the watchwords we have this year is there are consequences for choosing to live like this. It’s not a fairytale.”
Series 8 will begin on BBC One on Saturday 23 August with a feature-length premiere episode entitled ‘Deep Breath’.
