EastEnders actor and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Rose Ayling-Ellis told Sky News presenter Kay Burley that there is no truth to the rumour that developed after it was announced she was leaving EastEnders that she was cast in Doctor Who

When asked what she has planned next, she smiled and shrugged while speaking and signing “Next? We’ll see.”

When asked by Burly if she might be the Doctor’s new assistant, she had this to say.

“I have no idea where that got started. The rumour just spread fast – Oh! Okay, that sounds like a really great job but…,” she said while shrugging.

When pressed whether she was being coy about there being truth to the rumours, she said “No, no. There’s no truth. There’s no truth. I think it’s rumours that started last week on Twitter and I go, ‘Oh!’ An it just got bigger and bigger and now it’s everywhere. I’m like, ‘Oh!’”

Ayling-Ellis spoke to Sky News ahead of giving the Alternative MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Friday, August 26 where she will speak about her experiences growing up as a deaf person, as well as the challenges of having a disability in the industry.

What has been announced as next for Rose Ayling-Ellis is that she will present a BBC documentary about the daily challenges, discrimination and barriers faced by deaf individuals titled Signs For Change. She also announced at Edinburgh TV Festival that she is developing a comedy-drama about deaf women dating in London.
