In a report by Nicola Methven in The Mirror, Doctor Who villains such as the Cybermen, Daleks and Weeping Angels will get their own television series, according to an insider.
The Mirror reports that Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has plans to expand the “Whoniverse” with Marvel-style spin-offs with money from Disney, which now has an agreement with the BBC to stream Doctor Who internationally on Disney+.
The Mirror’s source said: “Fans can expect to see Sontarans, Weeping Angels and Sea Devils in separate series showing what they get up to when the Doctor isn’t there to stop them, along with Daleks and Cybermen.”
Davies has already created two Doctor Who spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine journalist Paul Kirkley January 2021, Davies said:
“I was in the middle of running an empire. And my god I did that 10 years too soon, didn’t I?”
“There should be a Doctor Who channel now. You look at those Disney announcements, of all those new Star Wars and Marvel shows, you think, we should be sitting here announcing The Nyssa Adventures or The Return of Donna Noble, and you should have the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors together in a 10-part series. Genuinely.”
“The whole science fiction world is so creative and so money-making right now, I think your wildest dreams can come true.”
The BBC said it was too early to comment on any plans when contacted by The Mirror for comment.
