Smack The Pony cast are “working on reunion projects”

Fiona Allen, Doon Mackichan and Sally Phillips – creators and stars of the wonderful Smack The Pony sketch show – will seemingly come back together soon for some sort of a reunion.

The show ran from 1999 to 2003, racking up 23 episodes (including specials) on Channel 4. There was a short reunion on Red Nose Day 2017, but now it seems that there is more in store to please the show’s fans.

At the end of a big retrospective feature in The Guardian, Fiona Allen confirmed that she, Doon Mackichan and Sally Phillips are currently working on reunion projects.”

Phillips added this: “I think the time has perhaps come for an entirely period-based sketch show: The Big Red One. We used to joke about that. No, I’m still joking.”

Pile, earlier on in the piece, revealed that she still finds a lot of the show’s gags to be relevant still today: “I am always finding myself doing things that we identified on screen – drinking wine by the box, holding one’s breasts whilst running up stairs, humming Fleetwood Mac whilst trying to park in a tight spot…”

As it stands, we don’t know whether these Smack The Pony reunion plans will result in a new series, another special, more one-off charity sketches, or perhaps something totally different. As we hear more, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
