One of the year’s most anticipated US TV shows has just been delt a blow, losing its showrunner before production could even begin.
It’s not the best of starts. The acclaimed movie Snowpiercer may have struggled – thanks to problems with its distributor – to find an audience, in spite of earning no shortage of acclaim. In fact, you still can’t legally get the film in the UK, bizarrely, even though the movie was released back in 2014.
Things looked more promising at least with the announcement of a television series, based on the comic book origins of Snowpiercer. This already has quite a cast too, with Jennifer Connelly leading the ensemble. And the TNT network brought in The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Josh Friedman as showrunner. He penned the pilot episode, that Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson put together last year.
The series was duly ordered, but it turns out with one casualty: Friedman himself. Even before the show has started, Friedman has left, with ‘creative differences’ being the apparent reason.
The show is still moving forward, but the search for a new showrunner has begun…
