Star Trek: Michael Dorn still wants a Worf spinoff series

Posted Filed under

Michael Dorn is still keen to see Worf leading his own series, and he has “perfectly timed” idea to make it happen.

The actor previously played the popular Klingon character Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Generations as well as appearing in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and numerous Trek video games.

Speaking to Inverse, Dorn explained that he’d like to see Worf outside the confines of Starfleet, with a show exploring what it’s like to live in the Klingon Empire. Here’s what he said about the prospect of such a show:

“This is, I think, perfectly timed and placed. You’re not stepping on anybody’s toes, and I always thought the Klingon Empire was a great empire to write about because it’s Shakespearean.”

He added this, touching on the themes he’d like to explore:

“The Klingon Empire has had to evolve and change and they don’t like that and they’re fighting it every step of the way. They’ve had to introduce aliens into their society. Just like our world now is becoming a global world where it’s not just like, ‘Oh we’re Californians and that’s all that really matters.’ We’re talking about something here and it affects China.”

Only time will tell if Dorn gets his wish and Worf gets his own show. Certainly, there is more Trek stuff being made at the moment than we’ve had in a few years (with Discovery season 2 on the way and a Jean-Luc Picard series), but there is yet to be any official word from CBS regarding any plans for Worf.

As we hear more Star Trek news, we’ll be sure to let you know.
