Star Trek: Picard gets prequel novel and comic book

Star Trek: Picard, the upcoming TV show from CBS All Access that will pick up with Sir Patrick Stewart’s iconic Starfleet captain, will get two print prequels – a comic book and a novel. Here’s the info…

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, reporting that these two projects will “help fill the gap” between 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis and the plot of the Picard show (which is due to premiere in 2020).

The comic book project is titled Star Trek: Picard – Countdown, and it will be written by Mike Johnson and Kirsten Beye. It will consist of three issues, telling the story of “a single mission that would change the life of Picard.” The first issue will launch in November this year.

Then, in February next year, Una McCormack’s The Last Best Hope will launch. This novel “will lead directly into the Picard television series proper, and introduce new characters appearing in the show.”

Veronica Hart from CBS said this about the news:

“From the moment we announced this series we’ve seen a groundswell of support from our fan base who are thrilled to have Jean-Luc Picard back on their screens. Having this brand new original backstory play out through both comic book and novel formats will set the stage for the new series in an exciting way while also showcasing the work of our talented partners at Simon & Schuster and IDW.”
