Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has assured fans that the show will not be remade.
Asked at BBC Worldwide Showcase, a TV industry event in Liverpool, if any foreign TV channels ever enquired about making their own version of Doctor Who, he replied: “If anyone were to ask me, I’d say it’s an absolutely insane idea.”
The Sherlock writer added: “You couldn’t have more than one Doctor Who in the world. It would just be dreadful.”
Moffat also commented that the 52-year-old show has become “unremakeable”, saying: “Doctor Who‘s probably penetrated enough that it’s no longer regarded as an import, it’s just that show.”
Season 9 began filming in Cardiff in January and will air on BBC One this autumn.
