Work officially began in earnest yesterday on the innards of new headquarters for BBC Cymru Wales, it’s been confirmed.
A new broadcast centre is being put together in Central Square, Cardiff, with the aim being to have it open and fully staffed in 2020. The BBC will transfer staff across from its current site at Llandaff when the new HQ is open.
It’s the work on the interiors that’s now underway, and that’s set to be completed by the end of next year. When fully functioning, the building will play host to over 80 production companies, who will access to it.
The keys were handed over to the BBC’s director general, Tony Hall, yesterday. The site will give the BBC 14,400 sqm of space in the middle of Cardiff.
