As far back as he could remember, he always wanted to be a gangster. And now, he’ll get to do it again. Yep, that’s right, Ray Liotta of Goodfellas fame has joined the cast of HBO’s The Many Saints Of Newark. This movie is a prequel to The Sopranos, and here’s everything you need to know…
Liotta joins an impressive cast, which also includes Michael Gandolfini (played his dad’s old character, Tony Soprano) alongside Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Corey Stoll and Billy Magnussen.
The script is written by the show’s creator, David Chase, with help from Lawrence Konner. Alan Taylor, who previously shot key episodes of Game Of Thrones and the feature Thor: The Dark World, is set to direct.
We don’t know much about the story specifics, but we do know that its set during the Newark riots of the 1960s. Details regarding Liotta’s character are nonexistent, but the actor did share this brief quote with Deadline:
“I am thrilled to be working with David Chase and Alan Taylor on The Many Saints of Newark. David’s talent is unmatched and the directing of Alan Taylor makes this even more exciting. I respect them both immensely and look forward to making this special project with New Line.”
